Trenton, NJ Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Section 292-7.1, Time restrictions for parking on street; exceptions, added November 7, 2024 by Ordinance No. 24-69, bars anyone owning, using or otherwise in custody and control of a motor vehicle from parking or allowing it to be parked on any Trenton street for a period exceeding 21 days. The rule is written to override other permissions: it applies notwithstanding whether the parking of the vehicle is otherwise permitted by ordinance or other applicable law, meaning a resident permit or an unrestricted block does not exempt a vehicle from the 21-day cap. The only carve-outs are designated handicapped parking spaces and vehicles displaying a valid handicap placard. The section sits in Chapter 292, Vehicles, Abandoned, alongside the front-yard parking ban in § 292-7 and the abandoned-vehicle provisions of §§ 292-2 through 292-6, reflecting the same underlying policy: the City does not want vehicles parked on public streets indefinitely, whether in a yard or at the curb.
