Trenton, NJ Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Chapter 14, Traffic, regulates on-street parking through more than 30 numbered schedules attached to the chapter (no-stopping zones in Schedule I, metered time limits in Schedules VI through IX, and more), each incorporated by reference into § 14-2's numbered subsections. 11, Illegally parked vehicles; towing; immobilizing procedures; scofflaws; fees; penalties, which applies citywide: subsection A declares any vehicle 'parked in violation of this chapter or any amendments added thereto' a nuisance that any peace officer may remove. Subsection B lets police or ordinance compliance officers immobilize a violating vehicle with a clamping device instead of towing it immediately, and requires a notice affixed to the vehicle explaining how to get the clamp removed.

Subsection C sets the release price: the owner or authorized operator must post collateral for the underlying citation, and any prior unanswered citations, with the Municipal Court's Violations Clerk, or pay all outstanding fines and costs, plus a $40 immobilization release fee. If the owner does not respond within 24 hours, subsection D authorizes towing and storage instead, with notice sent by certified mail. Subsection F separately treats any vehicle with five or more unanswered, defaulted parking citations as a public nuisance subject to a formal hearing before the Business Administrator and possible immobilization until the citations are resolved.

Trenton's own code text does not separately address blocking a driveway or wrong-way parking; those are matters of state Title 39, which § 14-1 expressly incorporates for undefined terms.
