Unlike many cold-climate cities, Wichita does not enforce a blanket overnight on-street parking prohibition. Residents and guests may park on residential streets overnight as long as the vehicle is currently registered, displays valid plates, and does not violate the 48-hour stationary limit, which resets when the vehicle is moved at least one block. Several specific contexts do impose overnight restrictions: posted permit-parking districts near Wichita State University and downtown medical centers limit overnight on-street parking to permit holders; private parking lots and downtown garages enforce their own overnight rates and tow policies; and during declared snow emergencies, vehicles must be removed from designated snow routes between specified hours, typically 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., until plowing is complete.
