Woodbridge, NJ Parking Rules: Preferential Parking Districts (2026)

Township Code § 7-17 bars anyone from parking on a street or part of a street listed in the residential permit schedule unless a current permit issued by the Township is displayed on the vehicle. 1 conditions issuance on the vehicle being owned or regularly operated by a resident of that street, with the decal displayed on the driver's-side front window, or a guest permit hung from the rearview mirror. Exceptions cover visitors, who may display a two-day visitor permit obtained through the Police Department Records Division, with three visitor permits issued per residential unit and additional seven-day temporary visitor permits available (renewable once, capped at 30 aggregate days, and no more than ten temporary permits per resident at one time); contractors, service and delivery vehicles bearing a business name while actually servicing a resident; emergency, public utility and municipal vehicles while rendering service; handicapped-plated vehicles; and government vehicles bearing official plates.

1A explains the purpose: protecting residents near mass transit, downtown shopping or nightclub-type uses from commuters and patrons displacing them, and it separately makes it unlawful to display a residential permit while using mass transit or patronizing nearby downtown businesses rather than parking near one's own home. Separately, § 7-16(d) lets the Township rescind a Woodbridge (Proper) Resident Parking Permit if a permit-holder is found parking near a mass transit facility in violation of that abuse rule.
