Blue Earth County, MN Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Sec. 24-310, the county's parking and loading regulations, directly restricts outdoor storage of recreational and other vehicles in residential zoning. Subsection (o), "Parking and storage of vehicles," states that automotive vehicles or trailers of any kind or type without current legal license plates, or those that are inoperable, cannot be parked or stored on property zoned C, RR or RT other than in completely enclosed buildings; that sweeps in boats, boat trailers, campers and travel trailers that are unlicensed or non-operational, whether on a driveway, side yard, or elsewhere on a rural residence or rural townsite lot.

Subsection (n), "Parking of commercial vehicles or equipment," separately bars commercial vehicles, trailers or equipment from being parked, stored or otherwise contained in an RR or RT district unless fully enclosed, or unless they are actively being used for a legitimate service to the residential premises, which covers larger camper or utility trailers used commercially. These rules sit alongside the chapter's general parking standards: off-street spaces must be at least 300 square feet with a nine-foot width and 19-foot depth, and required parking cannot be repurposed for storing goods or inoperable vehicles.

The regulations apply to all buildings and uses of land established after June 8, 1996, per Sec. 24-310(m), and existing on-site parking cannot be reduced below the chapter's requirements.
