Full Breakdown
City Code § 6-72's amendment to § 302.8 of the adopted Property Maintenance Code bars keeping any licensed or unlicensed utility trailer, boat trailer, or motorized or pull-type camping trailer on an unapproved surface, meaning off any paved or otherwise approved parking area, on residential property in Columbia, and bars storing any such vehicle, or an inoperative or unlicensed motor vehicle, in a state of major disassembly. Two exceptions apply: a vehicle may undergo bodywork inside an enclosed garage or structure, and lawn or yard vehicles and utility trailers four feet wide by eight feet long or smaller, not licensed for street use, are exempt.
Violations & Fines
Storing an unlicensed trailer or vehicle on an unapproved surface, or leaving one partly disassembled, is a Property Maintenance Code misdemeanor punishable by $25 to $500, up to three months in jail, or both.
