Gresham, OR Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Gresham Revised Code § 8.25.010(2), in GRC Article 8.25 (Parking), governs on-street parking. It applies to public and private streets alike, and it reaches both the driver and anyone who permits a vehicle they own, operate or control to be parked in violation. The section was last amended by Ord. No. 1783 on 05/01/2018.

Time limits come first. Subsection (2)(b) prohibits parking longer than official signs, parking meters or other markings placed by the city, county or state allow. Those limits are effective only between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., unless the street is designated "no parking at any time" or otherwise marked, and they do not apply on Sundays and holidays. Section 8.25.020 adds a separate aggregate rule: the combined time of all stops of one vehicle cannot exceed the posted limit anywhere on either side of the street within the same block between intersections.

Position on the street is set by subsection (2)(d). A vehicle must face the indicated direction of travel with its wheels parallel to and within 12 inches of the curb. Where there is no curb, it must sit as close as possible to the edge of the shoulder. Where spaces are marked, it must fit within a single marked space, unless the size or shape of the vehicle makes compliance impossible. Subsection (2)(i) bars parking or standing at an angle to traffic flow unless official parking space markings or other traffic control devices designate angle parking.

Subsection (2)(e) prohibits standing or parking in a manner that obstructs a driveway, and it prints no grace period or exception. The remaining paragraphs cover curbs painted yellow or red and other signed prohibitions (a), repairs other than emergency repairs (c), permit-only signed parking (f), hazardous or abandoned vehicles (g), and street-maintenance closures (h).

Two neighboring subsections apply on the same street. Subsection (4) limits parking in an alley to the immediate loading or unloading of persons or property, and in no case more than 30 consecutive minutes. Subsection (9) bars parking in front of a post office entrance, or within 10 feet of a private mailbox on postal delivery days between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Section 8.25.060 exempts vehicles of the city, county, state or a public utility while in use for construction, maintenance or repair work on a street or utility, and United States vehicles collecting, transporting or delivering mail.
