Idaho Falls City Code Sec. 9-4-1 lists where on-street parking is prohibited, including sidewalks, driveways, intersections, crosswalks, and near fire hydrants. The code also sets how vehicles must be positioned relative to the curb. Most violations are infractions enforced by the police and authorized parking agents.
Idaho Falls City Code Sec. 9-4-1 makes it an infraction to park a vehicle in numerous designated places, including on a public sidewalk; within any portion of a public or private driveway or entrance to a public street; within an intersection; within fifteen (15) feet of a fire hydrant; within a crosswalk; within twenty (20) feet of a crosswalk at an intersection; within thirty (30) feet of the approach to any flashing beacon, stop sign, or traffic control signal; within fifty (50) feet of the nearest rail of a railroad crossing; on any bridge or elevated structure; in a fire apparatus access road; and at any place where traffic regulatory signs prohibit parking. Sec. 9-4-6 governs the manner of parking: it is an infraction if the bumper closest to the curb sits more than eighteen inches (18') from the curb face where angle parking is designated, or if any wheel or rim is on top of, behind the back of, or behind the gutter flow line of the curb. Signed restrictions are established by City Council resolution after a recommendation of the Traffic Safety Committee (Sec. 9-4-8). Notices of violation outside the Downtown Area are issued under Sec. 9-4-25, and recipients have fourteen (14) days to pay or request a hearing. Penalties are infractions with fines set by Council resolution (Sec. 9-4-28).
Parking on a sidewalk, in a driveway or intersection, within 15 feet of a hydrant, in a crosswalk, in a fire apparatus access road, or more than 18 inches from the curb where angle parking is marked are infractions under Sec. 9-4-1 and 9-4-6, punishable by fines set by Council resolution and enforced by the Idaho Falls Police Department.
