Mebane, NC Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

In the City of Mebane, North Carolina, Chapter 34, Article IV of the Code of Ordinances governs how, where and how long a vehicle may sit on a public street. Section 34-171 requires cars to park parallel to the curb and within 12 inches of it unless a street is marked otherwise, and Section 34-173 forbids stopping with the left side to the curb in the business district; on one-way streets a vehicle must stop headed in the direction of traffic, which is Mebane's wrong-way parking rule.

Section 34-176 makes it unlawful to park anywhere on a street to display a vehicle for sale, to wash, grease or repair it (except emergency repairs), or to store a vehicle, detached trailer or van when it is not incident to actual use. Section 34-178 lists specific no-park zones: sidewalks, intersections, crosswalks, within 30 feet of a stop sign or signal, within 50 feet of a railroad crossing or underpass, alongside street excavations, and within 15 feet of a hotel, theater, hospital or public building entrance.

Section 34-182, adopted by ordinance March 6, 2006, bars parking or storing boats, recreational vehicles, trailers, and inoperable or unlicensed motor vehicles on public streets, though short-term standing under two hours for loading or unloading is not considered parking. Section 34-183 confines any vehicle over 22 feet in length to business- or industrial-zoned streets if parked longer than one hour. Enforcement runs through Section 34-161: an officer tags the vehicle, the owner has ten days to pay a $5.00 civil penalty to the city clerk, and late payment adds a $10.00 fee (total $15.00) within 30 days or an additional $15.00 (total $30.00) after 30 days, with unpaid balances referred to the city attorney for civil collection.
