Santa Fe, NM Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

1(A) lists sixteen specific places where stopping, standing, or parking a vehicle is prohibited unless the driver is avoiding a traffic conflict or following a police officer's or traffic-control device's direction. Blocking a driveway is item (2); parking within an intersection, on a crosswalk, within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, within 30 feet of a stop sign or signal, within 50 feet of a railroad crossing, or on a bridge or in a tunnel are also barred outright. Item (4) sets a 15-foot buffer around any fire hydrant, and item (16) forbids parking between a curb and sidewalk or along the property-line side of a roadway shoulder.

Subsection B makes it unlawful to move an unauthorized vehicle into any of these prohibited zones or to leave a curb parking space at an unlawful distance, and Subsection C lets the city administrator modify these rules street-by-street with signs, markings, or parking meters. 2: on a street with curbs on both sides, a parked vehicle's right-hand wheels must sit parallel to and within 18 inches of the right-hand curb, meaning the car must face the same direction as travel on that side of the street.

On a one-way street, either the right-hand or left-hand wheels may be used, again within 18 inches of the respective curb. Both sections trace to state law, NMSA 1978 Sections 66-7-351 and 66-7-352, and are enforced citywide by the Santa Fe Police Department and parking enforcement officers under the Uniform Traffic Ordinance, Chapter XXIV, Article VI.
