Brick, NJ Parking Rules: Towing & Impound Rights (2026)

Brick is governed as the Township of Brick, and its towing rules live in Chapter 437, Towers and Wreckers. Section 437-7 is the part a vehicle owner cares about, because it sets the maximum a tower on the police rotation may bill and then closes the list: § 437-7B says the tower shall not charge any fee not defined in that section unless the owner authorized it first. A basic tow is $150 for a motorcycle or a Class I vehicle rated 8,600 pounds GVWR or under, $200 for Class II between 8,601 and 15,000 pounds, and $400 for Class III at 15,001 pounds or more, with no extra charge for using a flatbed.

Loaded mileage from the scene to the final destination runs $5, $10 and $12 per mile for Classes I, II and III. Because Brick Township fronts Barnegat Bay and the ocean, the schedule prices beach or water recovery separately at $450 per hour, billed in thirty-minute increments once the vehicle is on scene. Winching and recovery elsewhere is $125, $200 or $400 per hour by class, and standby time on scene is $100 per hour but only after the first 20 minutes have elapsed. Storage is $40 per day outside for a Class I vehicle and $50 for Class II, while a Class III vehicle is $80 per day; inside storage at $50 or $60 a day for Classes I and II is allowed only on a written request from the Police Department or from the vehicle owner, and the chapter definitions state flatly that an outside unsecured storage facility is Not permitted.

Add-ons are capped one by one: the administration fee cannot exceed $30 and must be supported by full documentation subject to review by the Traffic Safety Unit, ordinary debris cleanup is $40 while cleanup needing more than 20 minutes is $55, tarping a damaged vehicle is $50, covering windows is $25, spill absorbent is $25, and dolly use, airline disconnect, release linkage, cage brakes or drive shaft removal are $30 each. Towing on New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas is billed at 1 1/2 times the regular towing rate.

A road service call that needs no tow, such as a flat tire, a lockout, a jump start or running out of fuel, is half the tow fee for that vehicle class plus the cost of parts or fuel. Getting the vehicle back is regulated too. for customer pickup of vehicles and retrieval of personal property, and the schedule prices an after-hours release at $50 per hour. Retrieving belongings from a stored vehicle is free for the first three visits, with a $50 yard fee after that.

Vehicles classed as police impounds, meaning stolen, abandoned, crime-related or fatal-accident vehicles, may not be released, entered or photographed without prior police approval under § 437-4, and a contractor must report any vehicle unclaimed more than 15 days to the Brick Township Police Department with a copy of the certified letter sent to the owner.
