Every owner of a dwelling, building, structure or property in unincorporated Hall County must keep it in conformance with applicable codes under § 8.140.020, or it can be declared a public nuisance. It is the duty of the owner of every dwelling, building, structure, or property within the unincorporated areas of Hall County to construct and maintain such dwelling, building, structure, or property in conformance with applicable codes, or such other provisions of the Official Code of Hall County, Georgia, and/or state and federal laws which regulate and prohibit activities on property and which declare it to be a public nuisance to construct or maintain any dwelling, building, structure, or property in violation of such codes, ordinances, regulations or statutes.
Official source re-checked September 7, 2026: no newer edition of the code had been published (publisher’s edition: Code of Ordinances: Supplement 80).
Full Breakdown
020 puts the maintenance duty squarely on the property owner: a dwelling, building, structure or property in the unincorporated area must conform to applicable building, fire, and life-safety codes, or it is declared a public nuisance. 030. 040. 090. 110. 130.
Violations & Fines
Failing to comply with a court order to repair, secure, or demolish a substandard structure lets the public officer act directly under § 8.140.120: repairing, vacating and closing, or demolishing the building at the owner's expense, with proceeds from salvaged materials applied against the demolition cost under § 8.140.130. The abatement action must begin within 270 days of the owner's compliance deadline, and any time blocked by a court order does not count toward that clock.
