Lehi, UT Property Maintenance: Snow & Sidewalk Clearing (2026)

Lehi City Code § 8-2-6, titled Cleaning Sidewalks, makes it unlawful for any occupant or owner of property abutting on a street within the platted portion of the city to neglect or fail to clean and keep clean, of all weeds, ice or snow, rubbish, and obstructions, the sidewalks in front of the premises. 080. Because Lehi's general offense-classification rule at § 1-4-2(C)(2) provides that any act declared unlawful in the code with no other specification as to punishment is a class B misdemeanor, a violation of the sidewalk-cleaning duty defaults to that classification.

Under § 1-4-1(D), a class B misdemeanor conviction carries a fine of up to $1,000 for an individual and up to $5,000 for a corporation or other business entity, and under § 1-4-1(B)(1) a term of imprisonment of up to six months is authorized, though in practice snow-clearing complaints are handled through code enforcement notice and citation rather than jail. The same chapter separately bans blowing or pushing snow into any city street with a snowblower, shovel, ATV or plow under § 8-2-10, so a property owner clearing a walk cannot simply push the snow into the roadway.

The duty applies to the sidewalk fronting the owner's or occupant's own premises only, within the platted city, not to sidewalks elsewhere along the block.
