Full Breakdown

It applies to any gathering of two or more people at a residence, other private property, or public property rented for private use. The chapter carves out religious services and constitutionally protected religious activities, and does not reach a minor's supervised consumption at a non-public place under their own parent or guardian's watch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a homeowner be charged if guests under 21 drink at their party?
Yes. Section 8.06.020 prohibits any "person responsible for an event," which Section 8.06.010 defines to include whoever owns, rents, or controls the premises, from allowing alcohol to be possessed by, served to, or consumed by anyone under 21 at the gathering.
What is the penalty for social hosting in Eastvale?
A misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than $1,000.00 and/or imprisonment in county jail for not more than six months, under Section 8.06.030(a); a separate arrest for other criminal conduct at the party remains possible under subsection (b).
Does the social hosting rule apply if a parent supervises their own child?
No. Section 8.06.010's definition of covered gatherings excludes a minor's consumption of alcohol at a place not open to the public when that minor is supervised by their own parent or legal guardian, and it also exempts protected religious services.
