Sedona, AZ Public Conduct: Outdoor Smoking Restrictions (2026)

030(A) prohibits smoking in all public places and places of employment within the city, but lists seven exceptions, and outdoor patios are one of them: subsection (A)(6) exempts outdoor patios so long as tobacco smoke does not enter areas where smoking is prohibited through entrances, windows, ventilation systems, or other means. 020 make clear the underlying ban only reaches enclosed areas, defined as space between a floor and ceiling enclosed on all sides by walls or windows, plus a reasonable buffer near entrances and vents, so genuinely open-air spaces like patios were never inside the core prohibition to begin with.

Other exemptions include private residences (unless used as licensed child care, adult day care or health care facilities), designated smoking rooms capped at 50 percent of a hotel or motel's rented rooms, physically separated retail tobacco stores, veterans and fraternal clubs closed to the public, American Indian Religious Freedom Act ceremonies, and theatrical productions where smoking is part of the performance. 030(C) to declare their entire establishment, including an outdoor area, nonsmoking regardless of these exemptions, and must post “no smoking” signs and remove ashtrays from any area where smoking is barred under subsection (D). 030(E).
