Cherry Hill, NJ Public Conduct: Public Alcohol Use (2026)

1, adopted by Ordinance No. 75-70 in 1975, prohibits consuming alcoholic beverages while in or on a public street, sidewalk, public parking lot, public or quasi-public place, or public conveyance in Cherry Hill Township, Camden County, New Jersey. The ban extends to a private motor vehicle that is moving or parked on any public street, lane or parking lot, and to any private property the drinker does not own and lacks express permission to be on. Discarding alcoholic beverage containers in any of those same public or unauthorized private locations is also barred.

1 is classified as a disorderly person, an offense the Cherry Hill Township Police Department enforces directly on the street rather than through a separate licensing board. 2 (Ord. No. 85-52, 1985), addresses alcohol at Township recreation facilities. It bars serving, delivering or consuming alcohol at any recreation center, sports arena, stadium, bowling alley or bowling center, ball field, billiard or pool parlor, or public swimming pool unless the operator holds a license under the New Jersey Alcoholic Beverage Laws, Title 33. Where no such license exists, consumption at those venues is prohibited outright, with one narrow carve-out: adults twenty-one and older may drink in an unlicensed bowling alley, but knowingly letting anyone under twenty-one drink there is separately forbidden. Together the two sections cover both the open-container/public-drinking scenario and the organized recreation-venue scenario.
