Full Breakdown

Maple Grove's public drinking ordinance bars consuming, or possessing an opened or broken-seal, alcoholic beverage on all publicly owned property, including lakes and schoolgrounds, and in outdoor areas of privately owned residential property without permission from someone entitled to grant it. The ban also covers outdoor areas of non-residential or religious-institution property unless the city council pre-approves the activity, and parking lots adjacent to private businesses. It does not apply to parks or streets separately regulated by other ordinance or statute.

Violations & Fines

Consuming or holding an open container of alcohol in a covered public or outdoor area violates the section; the alcohol and its container are seized and impounded as evidence and destroyed after a guilty plea or finding.
