Pageland, SC Public Conduct: Public Alcohol Use (2026)

Section 22-54 of the Pageland Town Code, drawn from Article II of Chapter 22 (Alcoholic Beverages), makes it unlawful for any person to drink any kind of intoxicating alcoholic beverage on the streets, alleyways, highways or other public places within the town limits. The rule is broadly worded: it covers beer, wine, liquor and any other intoxicating beverage, and it applies to the entire public street network plus any other public place, not just downtown or a designated event zone.

The same article layers on two related restrictions the police can use alongside Section 22-54. Section 22-11 makes it a misdemeanor to drink alcoholic liquor in any public conveyance, meaning taxis, buses or similar vehicles operating in town. Section 22-13 targets the weekend window specifically: at any place licensed to sell beer or wine, drinking or possessing beer or wine in an open container between midnight Saturday night and sunrise Monday morning is a separate misdemeanor, layered on top of the sales cutoff in Section 22-12 that bars beer and wine sales in that same window (except for licensed sellers offering two-ounce containers).

Chapter 22 does not set out its own fine schedule for Article II, so enforcement falls back to the town's general penalty provision, Section 1-7: any Code violation without its own specified penalty is punishable by a fine of up to $500.00, imprisonment for up to 30 days, or both, with each day a violation continues counted as a separate offense. The Pageland Police Department issues citations for public drinking, and a conviction is entered in Pageland municipal court. Because the prohibition is townwide rather than tied to a designated entertainment district, it applies equally to a beer carried down a downtown sidewalk and an open container left in a car parked on a public street.
