Pageland, SC Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Section 32-44 of the Pageland Town Code, in Chapter 32's traffic article on rules of the road, provides that no person upon roller skates, toy vehicle or similar device shall go upon any roadway except while crossing a street on a crosswalk and except upon streets set aside as play streets when authorized by council. 216 and sits among the other pedestrian- and vehicle-conduct rules in Article II, alongside bans on boarding or alighting from a moving vehicle in Section 32-41 and unlawfully riding on a vehicle in Section 32-42.

Because a skateboard is a toy vehicle or similar device within the plain wording of the section, the roadway ban applies to skateboarding the same way it applies to roller skating: riders can be on a roadway only long enough to cross it at a marked crosswalk, unless the town council has formally designated that street a play street. The section is silent on sidewalks, so it does not itself restrict skateboarding there; sidewalk conduct is instead governed separately by Section 28-37's ban on skating in a manner that endangers pedestrians, and by Section 28-36's vehicle-on-sidewalk rule, which exempts children under 12 riding bicycles and tricycles on residential sidewalks outside the main business district. Because Section 32-44 sets no penalty of its own, a violation is punished under the Code's general penalty provision, Section 1-7.
