Alpharetta, GA Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Article III of chapter 30, Skateboards, was adopted by Ordinance No. 796, § 1, on June 15, 2020, and originally drafted as sections 30-40 through 30-44 before the code editor renumbered it to sections 30-65 through 30-69 to avoid duplicating existing section numbers. Section 30-65 bars operating or propelling skateboards or longboards on a public alleyway, sidewalk, public parking lot, public parking garage, or elevated surface, including rails, ramps, and steps, within the mapped skateboard restriction zone. Section 30-66 exempts minors 12 or younger if they are under the direct supervision of a parent, guardian, or other adult with custody or control.

Section 30-67 authorizes the director of public safety and the department of engineering and public works, with the city administrator's approval, to erect signs marking the restriction, but the absence of a sign does not excuse a violation. Section 30-68 sets the penalty structure: a $100 fine for a first violation, and a minimum $250 to maximum $500 fine plus up to 20 hours of community service for subsequent violations; offenders under 17 are handled under Georgia's juvenile code, O.C.G.A. Title 15, Chapter 11, and a parent or guardian receives a written warning after a child's first violation, but is cited if the child violates again within a year. Section 30-69 preserves the city's discretion to permit skateboarding in designated park areas notwithstanding the restriction zone.
