Fairfield, CA Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Two ordinances address skateboarding in Fairfield. , Monday through Saturday, no person may ride a skateboard on the sidewalk along Texas Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Jefferson Street, the heart of the city's historic downtown retail core. Outside those hours and outside that stretch of sidewalk, this particular section does not restrict skateboarding. 4 takes a broader, citywide approach for public property generally. Citing California Vehicle Code sections 21113(f), 21967, and 21969 as its statutory basis, it bars riding, propelling, or operating a skateboard, roller skates, or in-line skates, or riding a bicycle, on any public property under the city's jurisdiction once that property has been designated and posted as an area where the activity is prohibited.

The Director of Public Works holds the authority to designate which parcels of public property carry that prohibition and to install the signs that give notice of it. Because the citywide rule depends on posted signage at each location, whether skateboarding is barred on a specific piece of city property, a plaza, a parking structure, or a park, turns on whether the Director has actually posted that site rather than on a blanket citywide skateboard ban.
