Vallejo, CA Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Vallejo Municipal Code Chapter 7.101 confines lawful skateboarding to areas the city or the Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD) specifically designate. Section 7.101.010 names the skate area at Wardlaw Park as one such designated spot; skateboarding anywhere else on city-owned or GVRD-owned public or recreational property is off-limits. Even inside a designated area the rules are strict: no wheeled motorized vehicles of any kind may enter, and every skater must wear a fastened helmet, elbow pads, and knee pads while riding. The chapter targets facilities the city or GVRD own or operate rather than creating a general citywide sidewalk ban.

Section 7.101.020 requires the city to post one or more signs at each skateboard park or facility notifying riders of the Section 7.101.010 rules, so posted signage at Wardlaw Park functions as the operative notice for enforcement. Section 7.101.030 makes any willful violation of the chapter punishable under VMC Section 1.12.010, the code's general penalty section, and Section 7.101.010(4) separately states that anyone who fails to follow the designated-area and gear rules shall be cited and prosecuted, and upon conviction, pay a fine.

Skateboarding is separately restricted away from Wardlaw Park: VMC Section 8.20.210, in the parking-lot chapter, makes it unlawful to ride a bicycle, scooter, roller skate, skateboard, or similar contrivance, or to play ball or engage in any other sport, in or on any municipal parking lot or structure. That section also bars loitering in a municipal lot or garage for any purpose other than parking or retrieving a vehicle. Together, the two chapters mean a rider is legal only inside a posted, city-designated skate area with the required pads and helmet, and is barred from every other city recreational facility and every municipal parking lot.
