Glendale, AZ Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Section 8-51 defines a motorized skateboard narrowly as a self-propelled device with a gas or electric motor, a deck to ride on, and at least two tandem wheels that isn't already classified elsewhere as a motor vehicle, motorcycle, motor-driven cycle, motorized wheelchair, or electric personal assistive mobility device. Section 8-52, adopted by Ordinance No. 2473 in December 2005, then bans operating that device anywhere in a city park, on a public sidewalk, on a roadway, on any other part of a street, or on any city property, with no exception.

A parent, guardian, or legal custodian who authorizes or knowingly permits a minor to violate the ban is separately liable. Ordinary, non-motorized skateboards fall outside Section 8-52's citywide ban, but Section 27-45 still confines all skateboards, motorized or not, to public roadways or areas a city park specifically designates for that use, caps their speed at 15 miles per hour or any lower posted limit, and requires the rider to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians and equestrians while never operating in an unsafe manner. The motorized skateboard ban applies regardless of the rider's age, unlike the separate age thresholds set for electric bicycles and scooters under Article II of the same chapter.
