Scottsdale, AZ Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Section 17-86(a) prohibits riding or operating a skateboard, along with bicycles, electric bicycles, motorized bicycles, stand-up electric mini-scooters, and roller skates, in any area with posted signs expressly prohibiting those devices; wheelchairs and electric personal assistive mobility devices are exempt. That sign-based rule covers ordinary push skateboards anywhere in the city, including Old Town and business-district sidewalks where the City has posted restrictions. Motorized skateboards get their own division starting at Section 17-90. Section 17-93(a) bars riding, operating, placing, or parking a motorized skateboard or motorized play vehicle on any city sidewalk (except to cross it by the most direct route), in a city parking structure, park, or other public property outside park roadways, on posted private property, on any public roadway with four or more marked traffic lanes or a speed limit above 25 mph, on another's private property without written permission, or on any designated bicycle lane, unpaved trail, or multi-use path.

m. Section 17-96 further requires a working brake, headlamp and taillamp visible from 500 feet after dark, and a certified helmet (FMVSS 218) for any child operator.
