Long Branch, NJ Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Section 247-2 of the Long Branch park use regulations lists conduct barred in the city's parks, and subsection U, added by Ordinance No. 28-03 on August 12, 2003, states that no person shall be permitted to operate or use rollerblades, in-line skates, skates, skateboards or other similar devises in or about the following parks or any of the public walks adjacent thereto, naming a single site: Martin Luther King Memorial Park, Atlantic Way. Because the subsection names only that one park, the prohibition does not extend citywide to every park, sidewalk or the boardwalk on its own; a skater at a different city park is not reached by this specific clause, though other rules in the chapter, such as the general conduct standards in § 247-3, could still apply elsewhere.

The definition of PARK in § 247-1 covers a park, recreation, playground, recreation center or any other area in the City owned or used by the City and devoted to active or passive recreation, which frames how broadly the following parks in subsection U could be read if additional sites were ever added to the list. Enforcement of the park use article falls to the appropriate park authorities under § 247-5, who can eject a violator from the park on the spot, in addition to referring the matter for a citation.
