Queen Creek, AZ Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Chapter 11's Article 11-5, "Operation Of Conveyances," treats motorized skateboards as their own category, distinct from human-powered skateboards, bicycles and the micromobility devices covered elsewhere in the article. Section 11-1-1 defines a Motorized Skateboard as a self-propelled device that has a motor or engine, a deck or surface on which a person may ride, and at least two wheels in contact with the ground, that isn't otherwise defined under Arizona Revised Statutes Title 28 as a motor vehicle, motor-driven cycle, motorized wheelchair or electric personal assistive mobility device, and the Code specifically states a motorized skateboard is not considered to be a micromobility device.

That distinction matters because it drives a narrower operating rule: Section 11-5-6, "Operation Of Motorized Skateboards And Motorized Play Vehicles," allows them only on a street with posted speed limits of 25 miles per hour or less, a multi-use path, and a bicycle lane, unless the Town posts a location off-limits by signage. Sidewalks are conspicuously absent from that list, unlike the wider set of locations, including sidewalks, opened up to ordinary bicycles, Class 1 and 2 e-bikes, and standalone micromobility devices like electric scooters under Sections 11-5-4 and 11-5-5.

Riders of a motorized skateboard or motorized play vehicle still owe the general safe-operation duties in Section 11-5-3, including following the manufacturer's guidelines and operating in a way that respects the rights and safety of other persons and property, and the Town can further restrict any location by device type, speed, weight or pedestrian volume under that same section. The rules were adopted by Ordinance 823-23 on November 1, 2023.
