Tamarac, FL Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

City Code Sec. 13-12, adopted by Ordinance No. 93-19 on June 24, 1993, bans the use of roller blades, roller skates, in-line skates, skateboards and bicycles on every overpass within the City of Tamarac. The ordinance also reaches beyond overpasses: subsection (b) prohibits the same activities anywhere the city has posted a sign barring them, so Community Development and the Broward Sheriff's Office, which enforces the section under contract, can extend the restriction to sidewalks, medians, or business-district frontages simply by putting up signage. Subsection (d) requires the city to post prohibition signs on all overpasses, giving riders and skaters clear notice before they cross Sawgrass Expressway or Commercial Boulevard spans.

The penalty structure in subsection (c) is a flat, escalating fine rather than a discretionary court sentence: a first citation costs $50, and any repeat offense costs $100, regardless of which prohibited overpass or posted zone the violation occurred in. Because the ordinance is limited to overpasses and specifically posted locations, skateboarding on ordinary residential streets or in a shopping center parking lot is not covered by Sec. 13-12 itself, though other traffic or trespass rules may still apply. The section has not been amended since 1993, so the $50/$100 fine schedule and the overpass-and-signage scope remain the operative rule for anyone cited by a Broward Sheriff's Office deputy patrolling Tamarac's overpasses.
