Ashwaubenon, WI Short-Term Rentals: Night Caps (2026)

The Village of Ashwaubenon licenses short-term rentals under Chapter 6, Article 13, and Section 6-13-22(A) makes a license mandatory for anyone who operates a short-term rental more than 10 nights in a year. Once licensed, Section 6-13-22(C)(1) limits the property to no more than 180 rental days within any 365-day period covered by the annual license, matching the outer limit state law allows a Wisconsin municipality to set under Wis. 1014, which bars a local government from capping short-term rentals below 180 days a year.

A transition clause in (C)(1)(a) applied the same 180-day ceiling to every license that was already of record and in good standing during the July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023 licensing period, and that carryover status is void if the license lapses, is not renewed annually, or the property changes ownership. Owners and property managers must also notify the Community Development Department in writing when the first rental of each 365-day period begins, under (C)(2), so the Village can track the license year against the 180-day count.

The cap sits alongside a separate minimum-stay rule in (C)(3): outside owner-occupied units approved by Community Development, a single-family or two-family short-term rental must be rented a minimum of six consecutive nights per booking, so the Village limits both how many nights a year a property can be rented and how short any one booking can be.
