Alhambra, CA Short-Term Rentals: Occupancy Limits (2026)

Section 5.92.050(2) of the Alhambra Municipal Code sets the maximum occupancy of a short-term rental at two guests per bedroom. The maximum number of occupants permitted must be posted inside the unit on a guest notice (5.92.050(9)(a)). Section 5.92.050(1) prohibits visitors who are not registered with the host from staying on the property, so only guests the host has registered may occupy the STR. Section 5.92.050(3) prohibits commercial events, parties, or group gatherings, including weddings, banquets, and corporate events. To prevent overcrowding into non-habitable space, Section 5.92.050(4) bars using any part of the property not approved for residential occupancy for the STR, including a vehicle, boat, or RV parked on the property, a storage shed, garage, or any temporary structure such as a tent. These limits are the City of Alhambra's own standards under Chapter 5.92, not Los Angeles County rules; California state law does not set a uniform STR occupancy cap, leaving it to local ordinance.
