Oak Park, IL Short-Term Rentals: Short-Term Rental Permits (2026)

Oak Park Village Code Chapter 8, Article 40 requires every short-term rental, defined at section 8-40-1 as a residential dwelling unit or portion of one rented for a period of 182 days or less through a hosting platform, to be licensed. Section 8-40-2 makes it unlawful to conduct, keep, manage or operate a short-term rental without a license issued under article 1 of the chapter; a separate license is required for each rental unit, the license cannot be transferred, and all licenses must be renewed annually on the same conditions as the original.

The license fee, set in section 8-40-4, must accompany the application. Section 8-40-3 conditions issuance and renewal on a Village inspection: no license is issued or renewed until the short-term rental premises has been inspected and approved by the Village to confirm compliance with article 40. Section 8-40-5 layers additional standards onto the licensing process, including a requirement that owners market only through a hosting platform, a 24-hour minimum and 182-day maximum stay length, mandatory insurance, a guest register kept accessible to Village staff, and posting of the license with the owner's name and a 24-hour contact number inside the rental's front entrance.
