Oak Park, IL Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Section 15-1-19, Miscellaneous Parking Offenses, makes it unlawful for any driver, or for a vehicle owner to permit a vehicle, to be parked 'in a bus stop, loading zone or cabstand' (subsection F), alongside the article's other prohibited-parking offenses. The authority to actually mark off and reserve those loading zones sits in Article 3, Parking Meters: section 15-3-3 directs the Director of Public Works to install parking meters 'in such numbers and at such places as in his judgment may be necessary for the regulation, control and inspection of the parking vehicles therein, including the reservation of loading zones for commercial vehicles,' and to designate parking meter spaces accordingly.

A separate, business-specific loading zone scheme exists for licensed valet parking operators under Chapter 8, Article 35: an establishment seeking a valet license must first secure Village approval of a curb loading zone at least twenty five feet long, post 'Loading Zone, No Parking When Valet Parking License Sign Is Displayed' signage, and keep the zone clear under section 8-35-7, or risk losing the valet license and facing a fine of fifty to five hundred dollars per offense under section 8-35-8. Both schemes share the same underlying principle: a marked loading zone is off limits to ordinary parked vehicles regardless of which article created it.
