Skokie, IL Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Section 106-108 governs parking for loading or unloading in the Village's designated zones. In a passenger curb loading zone, no vehicle may stop, stand, or park for any purpose other than the expeditious loading or unloading of passengers during the hours the zone's regulations are effective, and never for more than 3 minutes. The Village Manager or designee can also issue special permits authorizing a vehicle to back to the curb to load or unload merchandise, subject to whatever terms the permit states. In a truck loading zone, a vehicle may stop only for the expeditious unloading, delivery, pickup, or loading of materials while the zone's hours are in effect, capped at 30 minutes; a passenger vehicle may still stop briefly there to load or unload passengers as long as it does not interfere with a truck waiting to use the zone.

The same section addresses bus stands: no vehicle other than a bus may stop, stand, or park in an officially designated bus zone, stand, or terminal, except a passenger vehicle may stop briefly for passenger loading if it does not interfere with a bus or taxicab. Section 106-31 defines a passenger curb loading zone as a space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers, and a truck loading zone as a designated space adjacent to a curb for vehicles during the loading or unloading of freight.

Section 106-100 gives the Village Manager or designee, subject to Mayor and Board of Trustees approval, authority to locate these zones and post signs stating any applicable hours. A property owner seeking a curb loading zone sign in front of a specific building pays the Sec. 00 annually thereafter.
