Gulfport, MS Sign Regulations: Freeway-Facing Signs (2026)

Code § 9-91(j)(3), part of the sign standards for B-1, B-2, B-4, I-1, I-2 and I-3 districts, permits interstate high-rise or freeway-oriented signs as a category of "other signs" beyond the standard freestanding, wall, roof and projecting signs already allowed in those districts. The section sets four conditions: the sign cannot conflict with state or federal outdoor advertising rules, including Gulfport-Biloxi Airport Authority regulations; it must sit entirely within 1,320 feet of the legally defined interchange right-of-way; its area cannot exceed double what the section otherwise allows for that parcel; and its overall height cannot exceed 75 feet above average terrain or highway level, whichever is greater.

Any sign 40 feet tall or higher, with or without a crane used for construction, must go to the Gulfport-Biloxi Airport Authority for review and comment under § 9-90(f)(5) and the parallel provision in § 9-91(h)(6), reflecting the proximity of Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport approach paths to the interstate corridor. S. Highway 49, Pass Road or Airport Road must additionally meet the decorative pole-wrapping and architectural-facade standards of § 9-103(b), reviewed by the architectural review committee.
