Waynesville, MO Sign Regulations: Freeway-Facing Signs (2026)

Section 510.090's billboard provision permits 'standard outdoor advertising structures' on any property in Waynesville with frontage on Interstate Highway 44, except property inside a residential or planned residential district; inside a planned development district, or on a parcel with a conditional use permit, a billboard is allowed only when specifically authorized on the final development plan or permit. Each sign face is capped at 672 square feet, excluding extensions and embellishments, with a maximum width of 14 feet and length of 48 feet inclusive of border and trim; extensions above the sign cannot exceed 96 square feet total or add more than five and one-half feet of height, and embellishments cannot project more than one foot from the sign face.

The maximum height for the whole structure is 50 feet from the highest point to the surrounding grade or street level, whichever is higher. Spacing rules keep billboards apart from each other and from housing: no sign may stand within 1,000 linear feet of an existing sign on the same side of the highway, within 1,000 feet of a residential district, or within 500 feet of an interchange, at-grade intersection or safety rest area, and every billboard needs a 50-foot front setback from any public right-of-way or private roadway easement. The rule also bars a billboard from obstructing an official traffic sign, signal or a driver's view of the roadway.
