Eden Prairie, MN Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

The Eden Prairie City Code does not carry a stand-alone garage-sale-sign ordinance; instead, Section 11.11, Subdivision 4.J.4 cross-references the general sign regulations, requiring that garage sale signs comply with Section 11.70. In the residential districts, R, R-1 and RM, Section 11.70, Subdivision 5.A.2.b treats a garage sale sign the same as any other yard sign: a lot may display one or more yard signs, but their combined area cannot exceed six square feet and no individual sign can exceed six square feet in area or three feet in height.

The general sign provisions in Section 11.70, Subdivision 4 layer on top of that limit: a sign cannot be placed within a public right-of-way, and any sign, including yard signs, must be constructed and maintained so it is not cracked, broken or bent, with faded or peeling paint repaired or removed. Because a garage sale sign is a yard sign rather than a temporary sign, it does not get the separate allowances in Subdivision 4.G or 4.H for construction or real estate signage, and it still has to come down once the sale ends since it can no longer be tied to an active use of the property.
