The Property Maintenance Code's temporary-sign table, printed at § 157-9C, sets a specific limit for garage sale signs: a maximum of one sign per permitted use, with a maximum size of six square feet, placing it in the same size bracket as a residential real estate sign. The table applies only where no permit is required, and the garage sale category sits alongside roadside stands and educational, charitable, civic or religious event signs, both of which get larger allowances of up to 20 square feet for a single sign.

Section 157-9D then sets the removal deadline that makes the exemption temporary in substance and not just in name: garage sale signs and other temporary signs must conform to the general placement rule in § 157-9A and must be removed within 48 hours of the end of the event. That placement rule bars attaching the sign to a fence, tree or utility pole, placing it in a public right-of-way, or positioning it so it obstructs or impairs a motorist's vision. Because the size and count limits and the 48-hour removal clock are both spelled out in the same section, a sign that is either oversized, one of two or more signs, or left up past the two-day window is a straightforward Property Maintenance Code violation.

The Building Inspector enforces the rule the same way as the rest of Chapter 157, issuing written notice under § 157-18 before any penalty attaches, with the fine schedule in § 157-20B applying to a violation left uncorrected.
