Renton, WA Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Renton Municipal Code Title IV sign regulations allow on-premise garage sale signs at the residence hosting the sale during the 3-day event. Typical limits allow one temporary sign up to 6 square feet in residential zones. Off-premise directional signs placed in public rights-of-way, on utility poles, telephone poles, traffic signs, fences along arterials, medians, or on other private property without owner permission are generally prohibited under RMC sign code and can be removed by city crews. Signs attached to public property with nails, staples, or tape can result in code enforcement fines and property damage to the posts. Signs must not obstruct sidewalk pedestrian travel, ADA accessibility, or sight triangles at intersections and driveways.
