Rocklin, CA Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Chapter 5.30 regulates every garage, yard, driveway, porch or estate sale on residential property that is exempt from a special event permit. Section 5.30.030 limits how often and how long a sale can run: no more than three sales per residential property in a calendar year, a minimum sixty-day gap between sales at the same address, no sales Monday through Thursday, and no single sale longer than seventy-two hours. The same section bars displaying or storing sale items anywhere except on the seller's own property or in structures on it, and specifically prohibits storing or displaying items in the public right-of-way or encroaching on a neighbor's property without permission.

Section 5.30.040 addresses signs advertising the sale: they are exempt from the citywide sign permit requirement, but must still comply with Chapter 17.75, Signs on Private Property, and Chapter 17.80, Signs on Public Property, which govern where temporary signs may be placed, their size, and safety setbacks from rights-of-way, driveways and sight lines. Section 5.30.050 makes the code enforcement officer responsible for enforcing the chapter.
