Section 17.75.060(H) sets the standard for every window sign in the city. Outside the holiday season, window signs cannot cover more than thirty-five percent of the area of each window, and the ordinance blocks businesses from banking unused signage allowance from one window and applying it to another; the thirty-five percent limit is calculated window by window. Multiple windows separated by mullions or frames narrower than four inches count as a single window for this calculation, which matters for storefronts with divided glazing. Window sign area is not counted toward the maximum building signage allowed elsewhere in Chapter 17.75, so a compliant window display does not eat into a business's separate building-sign allotment.

During the holiday shopping season, defined in the chapter's definitions section, Section 17.75.060(H)(4) lifts the coverage cap entirely, but keeps one safety condition: a clear line-of-sight view corridor from the exterior of the building to the cash register or checkout area must be established and maintained, so a fully wrapped storefront window cannot block visibility into the store for employees or emergency responders.
