Wellington, FL Sign Regulations: Holiday Displays (2026)

Land Development Regulations § 7.6.1 establishes Wellington's outdoor lighting standards for the entire Village, covering everything from fixture height to glare control, and subsection A.6 carves out a specific seasonal allowance for exterior holiday lighting. Under that provision, exterior holiday lighting is permitted only from November 1 through January 31 each year, a roughly three month window that covers the fall and winter holiday season and lines up with when most residents and businesses put up seasonal displays. Outside that window, the same decorative string lights, illuminated figures or roofline displays that are allowed in November, December and January are not authorized under this seasonal exception, and a property owner who leaves a holiday display lit into February has moved outside the permitted period.

The seasonal allowance operates alongside the rest of § 7.6.1's general lighting rules rather than replacing them: outdoor lighting still cannot exceed the Village's brightness and glare standards, and residential accent lighting under 450 lumens remains exempt from the separate white light requirement that otherwise applies to fixtures above 800 lumens. Because § 7.6.1 sits within Article 7's site development standards, the holiday lighting window applies Village-wide across residential and non-residential properties alike, rather than being limited to a single zoning district or overlay area.
