Wellington, FL Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Section 7.9.8(A)(6) of Wellington's Land Development Regulations sets the window sign standard for commercial, flex and community facilities land uses. Each individual window sign is capped at 50 percent of that window glass panel's area, measured on the ground floor only and excluding dividers or mullions but including glass doors. Across an entire facade, window signs cannot cover more than 25 percent of the ground floor's total window area, again counting dividers and mullions in that total. Address numbers and posted hours of operation displayed on a door or window do not count toward either limit.

Window tint or a single-colored vinyl covering with opacity above 50 percent is treated as a window sign and counted in the coverage calculation, though the rule does not apply to decorative fake windows approved by the Architectural Review Board as part of the building design. Illuminated window signage, including neon, is capped separately at six square feet of total illuminated area. Window signs sit within Wellington's broader sign code, adopted by Ordinance No. 2022-13, which also requires a sign permit under Section 7.9.9 before installation, review of the application within ten business days, and compliance with the general standards of Section 7.9.7, including a five-foot property line setback for freestanding sign structures.
