Section 24-100 confines window signage to the ground floor of a building; a sign meeting the definition of a wall sign that extends higher than 8 feet above grade is reclassified as a wall identity sign and counts against the property's separate wall-sign allowance instead, with an exception only for a street number address. The area cap is whichever is smaller of 20 percent of the window's glass area or 9 square feet, and lettering on any window sign may not exceed 6 inches in capital-letter height, though that area and letter-height limit can be waived through the administrative adjustment procedure in Sec.

24-49. The section further splits window signage by material: up to 3 square feet per occupancy may be printed on paper, vinyl, or similar material, while everything beyond that 3-square-foot allowance must be built from individual letters, logos, and graphics rather than a printed sheet. Illumination of any window sign is prohibited outright, with no exception in the section.
