Lyon County, NV Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

Section 7.02.04 of the Lyon County Code sets two core rules for political signs in the county. Subsection (A) requires the candidate to remove political signs within thirty days after the applicable election. Subsection (B) separately bars political signs from Lyon County property or rights of way altogether, a prohibition that reaches the right of way on either side of a paved or unpaved county road, the right of way reserved for a future county road, and any other county property whether or not it is actually being used or occupied.

Signs placed in those areas are a violation of law and Lyon County may remove them without notice, though subsection (B)(1) says the county will, when practicable, give a seven-day notice first, which can be delivered by phone or by posting the sign itself with a violation warning; removed signs are kept for thirty days and then destroyed. Subsection (C) requires political signs to also comply with other local, state and federal law, layering on separate rules such as private-property consent. Subsection (E) sets the enforcement teeth: anyone who violates the section is subject to a $500.00 civil fine, and the person responsible for the violation is also liable for the county's cost of removing any noncompliant sign. The section was amended most recently in 2022 by Ord. 626, after being adopted in 1998.
