16(k) regulates every sign within the 49thMOD, on top of the citywide sign article. Sign applications must include a scaled, rendered graphic showing colors, materials and copy (k)(1), and a table in (k)(3) sets area and height caps by sub-area: freestanding signs are not permitted at all in the LWOD or TPOD, wall signs top out at 6 square feet in the LWOD and 8 square feet in the TPOD, and any business may have only one marquee/awning, wall, or projecting sign. , and signs in the LWOD may not be lit at all (k)(4)-(5).

Projecting signs need at least 8 feet of clearance from grade or sidewalk (k)(6), and sign size must be proportional to the building facade (k)(8). Subsection (k)(12) then lists prohibited sign types: box or cabinet-style signs, LED or electronic changeable-copy signs, facade-painted signs unless documented as historic, attached signs covering windows or architectural features, projecting signs above second-story window height, more than one sign per business, adhesive-lettered awning signs, window signs affixed by tape or other non-permanent methods, and changeable copy exceeding 25 percent of the sign area.

The tape-mounted window sign ban targets exactly the kind of paper notice or poster taped inside a storefront window; a business must instead use a properly mounted, permanent window sign or forgo it.
