Laguna Niguel, CA Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Section 9-1-74(e) sets three numeric limits on temporary window signs used in conjunction with a commercial center or business. First, the total area of all window signs on a given building frontage cannot exceed 20 percent of the aggregate window area for that frontage, so a storefront with a large amount of glass gets proportionally more sign area than a storefront with small windows. Second, the number of signs is capped separately from area: no more than one window sign is allowed for every ten linear feet of window frontage, which keeps a business from covering a small percentage of glass with dozens of small signs.

Third, the section bars fluorescent, neon, or 'day-glo' sign colors outright, regardless of how much window area the sign covers. These temporary window sign limits sit alongside the separate measurement rule in Section 9-1-71.8(b)(2), which defines window sign area as the entire area of any sign placed on or inside a window that isn't painted directly on the glass; a sign painted directly on the glass is instead measured the way an individually-lettered wall sign would be.
