Littleton, CO Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Citywide, the Sign Allowances and Prohibitions standards list display window signs, meaning signs inside display windows visible from the street, as exempt from a Sign Permit and from being counted against a property's allowable sign face area, provided they are no larger than four square feet. In the Downtown districts (DMS, DTA, DMU and DNR), a separate, more detailed window-sign standard applies under the DT Sign Types and Standards section. There, window signs must be located in the lower or upper 25 percent of the window area, meaning they cannot simply be placed anywhere across the glass.

The application method is also restricted: window signs on glazing must be silk-screened, back-painted, metal-leafed, or sand-blasted onto the glass, while vinyl letters or other applied types are prohibited outright. Downtown window signage also factors into the broader sign-combination options available to a tenant: a business choosing Option 1 or Option 2 for its overall sign package is limited to window signs covering 10 percent of the combined area of all its windows, while a business choosing Option 3 may use up to 20 percent of combined window area, in each case paired with a corresponding limit on attached, monument, awning or projecting signage. Window signs are treated as an attached sign type under the Downtown sign-types table, permitted in all four downtown districts (DNR, DTA, DMS, DMU).
