1022 lists exceptions to that permit rule. Subsection (9) exempts "Window Signs," defined as signs located in windows if they are mounted or painted upon the inside of windows, within all commercial or industrial zoning districts. 1030 entirely. The code does not set a percentage-of-glass coverage cap for window signs the way some cities do; the only conditions are the location (inside the glass) and the zoning district (commercial or industrial). 1300 or otherwise require a permit. Signs that are painted directly on exterior glass, or that are separate structures merely visible through a window, do not qualify for the interior window-sign exemption and remain subject to the general permit and zoning-district sign standards elsewhere in Article VI.
