Stonecrest, GA Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Chapter 21 exempts window signs from the permit process under § 21-60(1), so a shop along the Mall at Stonecrest frontage or the I-20 retail corridor does not need to file a permit application before posting one. That exemption does not mean window signs are unregulated: § 21-62(2) lists 'window signs which exceed 30 percent of the total window area for the entire business' among the 22 categories of signs prohibited throughout the city, and § 21-63 still requires the property owner's consent before any sign, including a window sign, goes up.

Placement is also restricted by § 21-66(7), which allows window signs only on the ground floor of a building, so upper-story tenants cannot use window signage at all. For nonresidential zoning districts developed under Table 21-72(a), the code additionally caps window signage administered under that table at 10 percent of the window space, tighter than the 30 percent citywide ceiling in § 21-62(2); a business should treat the lower of the two figures as controlling for its district. Measurement follows the general sign-area method in § 21-64(a): the smallest continuous polygon of no more than eight straight lines enclosing the sign face.

Because window signs skip the permit application in § 21-24, there is no permit number to display, but the Director of Planning and Zoning and code enforcement staff can still cite an oversized display under § 21-28 as a prohibited sign.
