Perth Amboy, NJ Solar Energy: Panel Permits (2026)

Solar work in the City of Perth Amboy is priced in two places in § 184-2 of the City Code, the Uniform Construction Code fee schedule. On the electrical schedule, item (7) reads "Solar panels, grounding grids, disconnect switch etc., per unit (module)" at $20. The charge follows the module count. Branch circuits, the next item, are $35, and the electrical minimum fee is $75. On the plumbing schedule, item (14) reads "Active solar system" at $100.

Section 184-2 prints fees rather than application steps. The enforcing body is the Office of Construction and Fire Prevention, which § 184-1 creates. It consists of the Construction Official as chief administrator and Building, Plumbing, Electrical, Elevator and Fire Protection Subcode Officials. Section 184-1 B lets the city retain an on-site third-party inspection agency by contract in place of a particular subcode official, and § 184-2 B sets a private agency's charge at the uniform percentage bid of the state fee plus a forty percent (40%) administrative fee.

Changes after approval carry their own charges under § 184-2. Reviewing an amendment to a plan that has already been released costs an additional $75 per hour, minimum of one hour, and changing the contractor or owner on an issued permit costs an additional $75. Other electrical work requiring review and inspection is billed at $75 per hour with a one hour minimum. Section 184-2 D also provides for a state training surcharge based on the volume of new construction.
