Perth Amboy, NJ Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Section 414-15 of the Perth Amboy traffic chapter designates the locations in Schedule XI (§ 414-41A and B) as loading zones. It was amended 2-26-2014, 1-13-2016 and 8-12-2019. During the 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. window, no vehicle can stay in a loading zone for more than 30 minutes unless it fits an exception. A vehicle with commercial license plates only, loading, unloading, delivering or picking up freight or materials with a loading zone permit displayed, can park for a maximum of 30 minutes with flashers on. A vehicle without commercial plates can park while loading, unloading or conducting business at the permitted loading zone business for a maximum of 15 minutes, also with flashers on.

Permits are purchased at the Parking Utility Office for an annual fee of $50, and a lost or stolen permit is replaceable for $5. No business can purchase more than two permits in any calendar year. Permits cannot be photocopied or duplicated, which can result in a summons and denial of future renewals or revocation. A permit holder who receives three or more tickets for loading zone violations within one calendar year is subject to revocation of the permit due to abuse.

A business that wants a new zone files an application with the Perth Amboy Parking Utility, which reviews it and forwards it to the Police Department for investigation. Qualifying requests go to the City Council, which alone has authority to approve; if approved, the Police Department establishes the zone. A denied applicant is told by mail, and a letter asking for reconsideration must reach the City Council within 20 days of the notice of denial. The applicant can reapply once one year has elapsed from the notice of denial.
